(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf ambassador Bryson DeChambeau again proved he is among the PGA TOUR’s elite by claiming the No.1 spot in FedExCup Standings following a commanding four-shot victory at the season’s first FedExCup Playoff event, The Northern Trust, yesterday at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.
Relying on Bridgestone Golf’s TOUR B X ball, DeChambeau captured his third PGA TOUR win the past 13 months, joining a star-studded fraternity of only 10 golfers in history to hold that many TOUR titles before turning 25. Carding four rounds in the 60s, his lowest a 63 on Saturday, he led the field in greens-in-regulation and finished among the top five in driving distance, averaging nearly 300 yards.
This landslide victory improves DeChambeau’s chances of being named a Captain’s Pick to the 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup team. He finished one spot behind the eight automatic qualifiers.
“This was the first time I’ve had to hold onto a lead during the final round, but to be able to push forward and make a couple putts when I needed to was great,” said DeChambeau. “I have to thank Bridgestone Golf for being very instrumental in helping me get here and, if I can keep playing the way I am, I can do some great things.”
The young phenom switched to the TOUR B X in late 2017 after extensive experimentation on its impact in all areas of his game. He also wore Bridgestone’s new TOUR B FIT Glove, featuring high-end Cabretta leather with FIT technology to ensure a soft feel, consistent grip, and excellent durability. DeChambeau’s triumph is the second straight for Bridgestone Golf, as Brandt Snedeker relied on the TOUR B X ball and various Bridgestone clubs at the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship last week.
“Bar none, Bryson is one of the world’s finest players and we’re very excited to see what he does the remainder of the FedExCup Playoffs and hopefully the Ryder Cup,” says Dan Murphy, President and CEO of Bridgestone Golf. “His scientific mentality to hone his swing and make equipment choices has become the stuff of legend, and it’s this cerebral approach that makes him so special.”
The TOUR B Series golf balls represent Bridgestone’s most technologically advanced models to date. During development, company engineers used data from more than three million in-person and online ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, to identify needs of specific player types. They then drew on more than 800 golf ball patents to determine which proprietary technologies would most benefit each golfer persona identified.
In addition to DeChambeau and Snedeker, Bridgestone Golf staffers competing in the FedExCup Playoffs are 14-time major championship winner Tiger Woods and Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar. The company’s equipment is also trusted by Masters winner Fred Couples and LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Cheyenne Woods.
